Mit dem Re-Release der Chthonic Chronicles haben wir das Letzte der drei ursprünglich bei Nuclear Blast veröffentlichten Bal-Sagoth-Alben in der Mache.

Ohne dass sich jetzt ein Quantensprung vollzieht, toppen Bal-Sagoth mit Chthonic Chronicles die beiden Vorgänger. Es findet sich hier mehr Rock, etwas mehr Soundtrack, weniger Pathos und insgesamt geht die Band noch etwas abwechslungsreicher zu Werk.

„Avatar” hat lange melodische Partien, die kaum noch als Hard Rock bezeichnet werden können. Auch das mit einem klassischen Einstieg versehene „To storm the cyclopean Gates of Byzantium“ hat nichts mit Metal zu tun.

Daneben gibt es aber auch Stücke, wie „Arcana Antediluvia“, das Engelschöre mit rasendem Black Metal verbindet.

Chthonic Chronicles wird open minded Fans von Cradle of Filth oder Therion nicht enttäuschen, aber auch “sanfteren Seelen” einen Zugang bieten.
